the Self shines forth

Published November 24, 2021

A disciple asked Sri Ramana Maharshi, “How can I control the mind?”

Ramana responded, “There is no mind to control if the Self is realized. The Self shines forth when the mind vanishes. In the realized person the mind may be active or inactive; the Self alone exists.” (from The Spiritual Teaching of Ramana Maharshi, Shambhala , 2004)

As you are writing a song, are you trying to control it or are you letting the Self shine forth?

The creative practice teaches us attentive awareness, or deep listening, as Pauline Oliveros called it.

Do you ever feel like all the generations of your ancestors as well as all future generations want for you to have abundant creativity? That they want for you to allow the Self to shine forth?

I mean, if so, then what are you waiting for?

On the other side of fear and resistance, there is great joy for you. And maybe even the opportunity for Self to shine forth.
