What if I’m afraid to show what i don’t know?
– Hey, this workshop is a safe space. You won’t be asked to share anything you don’t want to and we’re all in this together! You can safely bet that there will be others in the same boat as you. There are zero expectations or prerequisites coming into this 1-hour workshop. We are here to meet you where you’re at and help you grow and feel more comfortable.
I have, like, a lot of unfinished songs. Like, a LOT. Okay- all of of my songs are unfinished. Help?

What if I finish a song… and I don’t like it? That terrifies me and might be why I don’t finish them.
– What if I told you that “done is better than perfect”? Or that “art is never finished, only abandoned”? Or maybe “your [killer] taste is why your work disappoints you”? Or “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain”?
Sorry, got a lil’ existential there towards the end. A few of those are relevant, right?! What about “the only thing we have to fear is…fear itself”?

GARY GRUNDEI
Acclaimed professional songwriter, performer, teacher
He’s the founder of the Friday Afternoon Songwriting Club community and engages with you LIVE on your songwriting journey.
Gary’s music has appeared on MTV, The Discovery Channel, NPR and the Kennedy Center. He’s composed for New York Stage and Film, Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Magic Theatre, GALA Choruses, and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. He’s also been fortunate enough to work with Meredith Monk, Bill Pullman, Leigh Fondakowski, Matt Berninger, Ron Miles, Barbara Dilley and Caitlyn FitzGerald. Gary lives in NYC with his family and is a member of the band High Fiction.
