Write Like A Rock Star weaves together the origin stories of Rock & Roll: the places, people and politics that gave rise to the tide that brought dynamic changes to the cultural fabric of the United States, Europe, and many other parts of the world beyond anything previously imagined. We’ll explore the basic meanings of “Rock” and “Roll” and the necessities that drove this music forward. You’ll discover the people who created it, played it, stole it, sold it, owned it and dominated it – while learning key elements of some of the genres that comprise this music well enough to write your own songs …. like a rock star.

This is an ambitious undertaking! Extensive reading, viewing and listening will be offered for you to explore between our weekly meetings, and will greatly enhance your experience of the course. Every class will be recorded and posted to the forum along with class notes and relevant links. With guided instruction, plus feedback from your fellow rockstars, you’ll have the encouragement to write at least three original songs, each representing a specific era of Rock & Roll.
