what is the real craving?

How are you faring amidst the capitalistic onslaught of the season?
Let’s pause a moment together and engage our creativity and compassion, shall we?
As Thich Nhat Hanh would invite us:
Breathing in, I know that I am breathing in
Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out
in
out
Now, in this pause, consider someone in your life that you might want to give a gift to.
Put yourself into their imaginary shoes. Sit in their seat, look at the world through their eyes and with their heart.
Allow your intuition and creative imagination to surface and ask yourself this question:
Start with the feelings.
There are common human wants like food, clothing, shelter, love, kindness, communication, touch, to be seen and known. Maybe some thoughts come to you along one of these lines.
Maybe you could give this person a gift that is based on you truly tuning your intuition to what they might be needing. And then turning your creative body toward how to give it to them in a way that could be received.
For example, if you think of someone who might just want company or a visit from you, then the gift might be something that needs to be hand delivered so that you have an excuse to go see them. Or maybe it involves a plane ticket. Or a casserole.
Or…(you KNEW this was coming) some musical invocation.
And now, if you really want to take this exercise to its full fruition, do the exact same exercise for yourself.
How often do we rally our creative and intuitive muses to support us in tuning into our own hearts and what we are really craving? Not often enough, I’d venture.
