COMPOSE  YOURSELF, SPECIAL EDITION:

Write 10 Songs in 10 Weeks!

A 10-week, live, intensive workshop for songwriters and composers of any level.

Compose Yourself : 10 Mondays, October 7th - December 9th, 2024

8:30 PM - 9:45 PM EST on Zoom for ten sessions

Welcome to COMPOSE YOURSELF

This LIVE 10-week workshop is designed for songwriters who are looking for some structure, accountability, individual mentorship, and a small group of like-minded musical peers to work alongside. In each of the 10 classes, recording artist James Cornelison (Lake Street Dive, Vulfpeck, Jon Batiste, Lucius) will guide you through writing your own original music from scratch, and help you further develop those first drafts into completed songs. With a focus on lyrical, melodic, and instrumental exploration, the techniques in the Compose Yourself Workshop are tailored to build on one another as the weeks progress and as you compile a new collection of your own songs. You’ll have the opportunity to approach songwriting from various angles, including co-writing and collaboration, and you’ll receive individual feedback on your creations from your instructor and your cohort each week.

an invitation from your instructor

Enrollment in Compose Yourself also includes enrollment, during the 10 weeks, in the Sustainable Songwriter Community at golden lotus studio with all the benefits therein, notably the Friday Afternoon Songwriting Club. Compose Yourself harbors an environment for extended creation with a growth mindset, using each week’s progress as a springboard into the next. In addition to working on brand new pieces each week, you’ll also work on pieces over the course of several weeks, and will be passing work along to other classmates for some long-distance collaboration! The cohort and administrators have access to a private forum where assignments and correspondence will occur during the 10 weeks. Th 10-weeks will also culminate with a collective class album and listening party. If you’re wanting to take your songwriting more seriously and build a catalog of original songs, this Compose Yourself Workshop is a great first step. We’re cultivating loads of inspiration and motivation and can’t wait to send it your way!

Success Stories

In the golden lotus studio classes, literally hundreds of people have made thousands of their best songs. I’d love for you to hear what some of our students are saying about this course:

“The class was ideal for me. It presented a variety of useful techniques that help a songwriter, even someone who has never written a sing before, to produce interesting and effective first versions of songs. The course allowed me to learn “song writing basics”, and encouraged me (that is, gave me courage) to continue writing songs after the course ended.”

– Keith W.

Golden Lotus Studio is a jewel, a great big YES. A nourishing, vibrant incubator for growing as a creative musician, breaking through old rules, hearing the songs inside and expressing them in new ways, and having fun doing this with other like-minded musicians from all over. Highly recommended.

– Rob R.

“As a total beginner, this class blew my mind because I didn’t think I could write a song and I wrote several. It was so fun to follow his exercises and within minutes have super fun lyrics. It was great to be in an environment with all levels of musicians and be a part of a community of music makers. “

– Macy M.

“I took [the] online workshop this winter and it was one of the most profoundly creatively satisfying experiences I’ve had. [They] foster a very positive and supportive atmosphere.”

– Mark C.

Have a blast:

The workshop was SO DOPE. I feel like my creative outlet just multiplied after that! - Michael B.
